Japanese Emergency "Gagil-Tamil" Airstrip on Yap Island Yukitoshi from Japan provided the following details: Construction of the Yap Second "Tamil" Airfield was begun by 205th Construction Unit from April 1944. Since the U.S. Forces landed at Saipan and Guam, the IJNAF units was diverted to some other purpose in another area. And air strikes of the U.S. Forces to Yap became intense. Therefore, construction work was stopped on July 25, 1944.
