The following R-2800 Engine from a Corsair was located on Yap Island in 2006. The engine is likely from a FG-1A Corsair stationed at Peleliu that was shot down over Yap on October 31, 1944 killing the pilot, Lt. George O. Beall, Jr. Beall's body was located after the war and returned to the US for burial. The rest of the Corsair wreckage was covered up by the Yapese when they created a nearby parade field. http://www.missingaircrew.com/yap/mac/31oct1944.asp Please feel free to send comments and questions to Pat Ranfranz: pat@missingaircrew.com Click on a thumbnail image below to view the full sized image.
